Make a jumper... just because.

January 02, 2016 by Andre Anderson

I wanted to make a jumper for myself... so I did.

Step 1: print design onto photopaper and cut out using a hobby knife.

Step 2: Tape stencil onto jumper (£10 from Primark). Dab fabric paint onto stencil with sponge.

Step 3: Wait for jumper to dry, then show off to your friends.

'IF IT'S NOT HEARTWORK IT'S NOT ARTWORK' Zine in India

January 02, 2016 by Andre Anderson

A friend sent me this picture from Jaisalmer, India. It's always cool to see something you created travel to places you've never been before. I wonder who's gonna read it..?

Authors of the Estate x Starbucks

January 02, 2016 by Andre Anderson

This is Jade. One of the Authors of the Estate. 12 months ago we was scribbling our thoughts on sheets of paper, trying to get a few words together. Those same words got us into the House of Commons the other day. The poster Jade holds in her hands has a picture of the estate with a quote of hers on top. Found out this week that this poster has been sent to "every Starbucks store in the Land". I'm always shocked by how far a few words can take you.

Lessons Learnt on Planet Earth [Creative Experiment]

January 02, 2016 by Andre Anderson

So this came to my door a while back. It's a book with 250 blank pages. The idea was to give myself the first page of every book (28 in total), writing in it a mantra I live my life by. I would then give the book to a friend and ask them to do the same. THEY will then pass it on to a friend (and so on). 'Lessons Learnt On Planet Earth' is a book of 250 authors. If all 28 books reach completion, then 1000's of authors would have participated.

As far as I know, the book has gone to Barcelona, Amsterdam, San Fransisco, South Africa, Cuba, and Texas. It’s been doing the rounds in London too. Rumour has it, Simon Cowell has one (RUMOUR has it). I gave it to a friend that gave it to the vice president of Sony Records. That was cool.

This was an experiment to see how my networks worked, and who was in them. I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the results. I never knew I was two people away from One Direction!? [Not that I’m a fan…]

‘Lessons Learnt on Planet Earth’ has only been going on for two months or so. I’m sure that I will be seeing new faces holding the book years from now.

Keep your eyes peeled for possible updates..

045: i'm not that excited about the new year. i'm more excited about the new day. i'm excited that i have 365 brand new chances to grow into the person i want to be. i don't have yearly goals. i have daily goals. i want the end of every night to feel as much of a celebration as this night has been. i want every morning to feel like january 1st. i'm less interested in new years resolutions. i'm more interested in daily growth.

here's to freedom, and here's to balance in 2016. take 1/365.

044: i remember the feeling of packing a rucksack full of literature (books written by myself and friends) and putting these books through all 1000 homes in my council estate. it was a different feeling from being dropped from my job a month prior. this new feeling was a feeling of purpose. this was a feeling of power. things i wrote up in obscurity in my bedroom became discussion points in radio shows and posters in coffee shops. what i did for fun, ended up making a real effect in the world. 2015 taught me that creativity is actual power, not just a cute pastime. the word 'author' is in the word 'authority' for a reason. be an author in your own story.

043: welcome to planet earth, baby boy. born in a manger. raised in the slums. but your environment does not define who you are, baby boy. you have things to teach us. the words you speak will resonate with millions of people, thousands of years after this date, baby boy. you will open the eyes of the blind. you will resurrect the dead. you will change the world, baby boy. some will speculate who you really are, baby boy. some will call you fictional, some will call you crazy. but the truth is you are a king, baby boy. the government we all desire. while others would expect the people to lay their life down for their king, you are a king who will lay your life down for your people. your life on earth will not be easy, so please get all the rest you can, baby boy.

sleep in heavenly peace.
sleep in heavenly peace.

042: every year i read 'new year, new me' on my timeline. it's never true. if you was thinking of writing that status this year, i'd encourage you to write a plan first. map out how you intend on making next year 'your year'. what can you be doing on a daily basis that will develop your 'new self'? make these goals tangible, actionable, realistic. mere excitement will not guarantee you success in the new year, but a strategy might.

get a vision. write the vision. live the vision.

041: life is about cake. when you are born, god gives you a slice of cake. some of us are given small cakes. some get wedding cakes. some are only given jaffa cakes. the real test is not the cake god gives you, but how you eat it. we may feel tempted to look at other people's cakes and wonder why their cakes looks so good. don't watch their cake, eat yours.

along the way, the supreme baker may bake you another cake. one that is sweeter and more accustomed to your taste. but in the meantime, enjoy the cake you are given. it's the only cake you have.
